Recently, there has been a rise in Chikungunya cases in the country. One of the key symptoms of Chikungunya virus infection is severe body pain, particularly inflammation and pain in the joints. Additionally, outbreaks of other viruses like the Zika virus have also increased, which can similarly cause body aches. In such cases, it is essential to consult a doctor. However, following certain habits and methods at home may help relieve some of the pain.
1. Physical Activity
Most patients feel intense pain that makes movement difficult. However, this type of pain often worsens with rest and improves with gentle movement. You can start with light exercises and gradually increase the intensity as your body adjusts.
2. Weight Loss
Excess body weight adds stress on joints, especially the lower back, knees, and ankles, which can worsen the pain. Those who are overweight should take steps to reduce their weight to ease the discomfort.
3. Warm Compress
Warm compresses are very helpful in reducing stiffness and pain, especially in areas that feel frozen or immobile. They improve blood circulation. If there is severe inflammation with swelling, a cold pack may be more appropriate. Always follow the treatment recommended by your doctor.
4. Diet
Eat nutritious meals regularly. Include plenty of fruits and vegetables in your daily diet. Reduce intake of sugary foods and excessive carbohydrates. Avoid processed foods.
5. Mental Therapy
Joint pain is often linked to mental stress, anxiety, or depression. Therapies like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can help boost mental well-being. Meditation and deep breathing exercises can also aid in pain relief.
6. Avoid Smoking and Alcohol
Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can worsen joint pain. Avoiding these habits is important in managing the pain.
7. Stay Hydrated
Dehydration can make body pain worse. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated.
8. Get Adequate Sleep
Lack of proper sleep can aggravate joint pain. Try to go to bed at a consistent time and ensure you get enough rest every night.
9. Massage
Light massage may help improve blood circulation and reduce mild body pain.
Important Note:
Even after following these methods, medication may still be necessary to manage the pain effectively. Only a qualified doctor can determine which medicine is appropriate. So, if the pain is severe, don’t delay seeking medical advice promptly.
